As our business continues to grow, we are expanding our Tax team in Sofia, Bulgaria, and are looking for a Tax Manager to lead and oversee the Group’s direct tax activities across multiple jurisdictions.

Tax plays a critical role in supporting SUNOTEC’s international growth, ensuring compliance, managing tax risks and enabling informed business decisions across multiple jurisdictions.

As Tax Manager, you will take ownership of key direct tax and international tax matters, working closely with Finance, Accounting, Legal, business stakeholders and external advisors. You will contribute to tax planning, compliance, governance and the continuous development of the Group’s tax function.

Where you'll make an impact

  • Lead and manage the Group’s direct tax function across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with corporate income tax, withholding tax and related reporting obligations;
  • Oversee the preparation, review and submission of direct tax returns and other tax filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable legislation and deadlines;
  • Manage international tax matters arising from cross-border operations, including withholding tax, tax treaty application, beneficial ownership, tax residency and permanent establishment considerations;
  • Lead and coordinate tax audits, inspections and tax authority reviews, ensuring timely and effective responses and maintaining strong relationships with relevant authorities and advisors;
  • Provide strategic tax advice to management and business units, supporting operational decisions, tax planning initiatives and opportunities for tax optimization while maintaining compliance;
  • Monitor developments in local and international tax legislation, tax treaties and administrative practices, assess their impact on the Group and recommend appropriate actions;
  • Identify and manage tax risks arising from the Group’s international activities and recommend appropriate mitigation measures;
  • Develop and implement tax policies, procedures and governance frameworks, ensuring consistent and effective tax management across the organization;
  • Collaborate closely with Finance, Accounting, Legal and other business functions on tax-related matters, transactions and projects;
  • Manage and develop the tax team, providing guidance, support and opportunities for professional growth;
  • Coordinate and manage relationships with external tax advisors, auditors and other professional service providers;
  • Contribute to tax-related projects and initiatives supporting SUNOTEC’s continued international expansion.

 

What will help you succeed

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Taxation, Economics, Accounting, Finance, Law or another relevant field;
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience in direct taxation, gained in-house within a multinational organization, a tax advisory firm, or a combination of both;
  • Strong technical knowledge of corporate income tax, withholding tax, international taxation, tax treaties and permanent establishment concepts;
  • Proven experience managing tax compliance, reporting and tax matters across multiple jurisdictions;
  • Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating tax audits, tax authority reviews and tax-related proceedings;
  • Experience managing relationships with external tax advisors, auditors and regulatory authorities;
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines;
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate complex tax matters clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders;
  • Fluent English, both written and spoken, with confidence working in an international business environment;
  • A proactive, commercially minded approach with a strong sense of ownership and attention to detail;
  • Previous experience in the construction, renewable energy, infrastructure or engineering industry will be considered an advantage.
