We are looking for a Sustainability Intern – Waste Reporting to join our Sustainability team in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Why this role matters

As SUNOTEC continues to grow internationally, effective waste management and reliable environmental data are becoming increasingly important to how we operate and develop our projects.

As a Sustainability Intern – Waste Reporting, you will support the collection, validation and reporting of waste-related information across our projects and operations. You will gain practical experience in waste management, environmental reporting, regulatory compliance and circular economy practices, while working closely with colleagues across Sustainability, HSE, Procurement, Logistics and Project teams.

This is an opportunity to work with real sustainability data and processes within a fast-growing renewable energy company and develop a practical understanding of how sustainability requirements are applied in an international business environment.

No previous professional experience is required. The role is suitable for a current university student, recent graduate or early-career professional interested in sustainability, environmental topics, waste management and renewable energy.

Where you'll make an impact

• Support the collection, consolidation and validation of waste data from construction sites, projects, subcontractors and waste-management providers;
• Maintain accurate waste registers and supporting documentation, including waste quantities, waste streams, treatment methods, recycling and recovery information;
• Assist with the preparation of internal and external waste and sustainability reports;
• Review submitted information and documentation for completeness, consistency and accuracy;
• Follow up with project teams, suppliers and other stakeholders when information or documentation is missing or requires clarification;
• Support the improvement of the quality, structure and traceability of waste and sustainability data;
• Assist with preparing dashboards, summaries and basic analytical reports;
• Support the Sustainability Waste Manager in monitoring waste-management and environmental compliance requirements relevant to SUNOTEC’s operations;
• Assist with maintaining records related to waste, packaging, batteries, WEEE and other applicable environmental requirements;
• Support the preparation of information required for regulatory reporting, Extended Producer Responsibility requirements and internal compliance processes;
• Help track reporting periods, regulatory deadlines and required documentation across different countries;
• Collaborate with Sustainability, HSE, Procurement, Logistics and Project teams, as well as external partners, to collect and verify relevant information;
• Support the monitoring of waste-management requirements implemented by subcontractors and waste-management providers;
• Contribute to sustainability projects, internal communications, presentations, procedures, training materials and continuous improvement initiatives.

What will help you succeed

We are looking for someone at the beginning of their professional journey who is curious about how sustainability works in practice within an international renewable energy company.

• Currently studying or recently graduated in Environmental Sciences, Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, Renewable Energy, Business, Economics, Supply Chain, Data Analytics or a related field;
• Genuine interest in sustainability, circular economy, renewable energy and environmental topics;
• Good organizational skills and the ability to work with structured information, documentation and data;
• Analytical mindset and willingness to identify inconsistencies, patterns and opportunities for improvement;
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and quality;
• Proactive approach and confidence in following up with different stakeholders to obtain the information required;
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with colleagues from different teams and countries;
• Curiosity and willingness to research and learn about environmental legislation, regulatory requirements and technical topics;
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines;
• Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team;
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word;
• Confidence working with data and spreadsheets; advanced Excel skills would be an advantage;
• Good written and spoken English.

Knowledge of ESG reporting, circular economy principles, waste legislation, renewable energy projects, Power BI or other data-analysis tools would be considered an advantage, but is not required.
