Job Description
Job Title:  Senior Electrical Engineer - Utility-Scale PV & BESS
Posting Start Date:  7/27/26

Delivering utility-scale renewable energy infrastructure across different markets requires more than strong engineering. It takes professionals who can bridge international design standards with local regulations, grid requirements and construction realities.

At SUNOTEC, that responsibility sits at the heart of our engineering organization. As an international system integrator of large-scale renewable energy infrastructure, we've delivered more than 680 solar plants and battery energy storage projects, representing over 15 GW of installed capacity and 6 GWh of battery energy storage capacity across Europe and beyond.

As our business in Romania continues to grow, we're looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer who will act as the technical bridge between our headquarters, local engineering partners and Romanian authorities, helping deliver technically robust and fully compliant renewable energy projects.

Why this role matters:

Our engineering teams deliver utility-scale photovoltaic plants, battery energy storage systems and grid infrastructure across Europe. Throughout every stage of project delivery, from early engineering and permitting to construction, commissioning and final handover, technical decisions must meet local legislation, grid operator requirements and SUNOTEC's engineering standards.

As the Senior Electrical Engineer for Romania, you'll play a central role in making that happen. Acting as the technical authority for the Romanian market, you'll bridge our headquarters, local engineering partners and project teams, ensuring technical consistency, regulatory compliance and high engineering quality throughout the entire project lifecycle.

Where you'll make an impact:

  • Serve as the technical interface between SUNOTEC's headquarters, local engineering partners and Romanian authorities, ensuring international designs are successfully adapted to local regulations and project requirements;
  • Take ownership of the engineering review process by validating electrical and multidisciplinary design documentation, ensuring compliance with Romanian legislation, ANRE requirements and applicable IEC and EN standards;
  • Support the successful delivery of utility-scale PV, BESS and grid connection projects by providing technical expertise throughout engineering, permitting, construction and commissioning;
  • Provide engineering expertise across design, tendering, project management and construction activities, helping resolve technical challenges before they affect project delivery;
  • Drive design optimization and value engineering initiatives that improve project performance, constructability and cost efficiency without compromising engineering quality;
  • Ensure engineering documentation remains accurate and aligned throughout the project lifecycle, including permitting, execution, as-built documentation and final handover;
  • Contribute to the continued development of SUNOTEC Romania by helping establish engineering procedures, technical standards and best practices that support consistent project delivery.

What will help you succeed:

  • You hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Power Engineering or a related discipline and have at least 5–7 years of experience delivering electrical engineering projects within renewable energy, utilities or power infrastructure;
  • You've worked on utility-scale photovoltaic plants, battery energy storage systems, substations or comparable electrical infrastructure and understand the technical challenges involved in delivering complex energy projects;
  • You have a solid understanding of Romanian permitting procedures, grid connection processes, ANRE regulations and applicable electrical standards, allowing you to confidently review and validate engineering documentation;
  • You're comfortable working across multiple disciplines and regularly collaborating with engineers, project managers, contractors, grid operators and external stakeholders;
  • You approach engineering decisions with accuracy and attention to detail, recognizing that small inconsistencies in technical documentation can have a significant impact during project execution;
  • You communicate confidently in both Romanian and English, as you'll work closely with colleagues across our European organization;
  • You have experience with AutoCAD, MS Office and engineering software used within renewable energy projects. ANRE Authorization IIA and IIB are required, while IIIA, IIIB or higher would be considered an advantage.

Why you'll enjoy working here:

You'll become part of an international engineering organization delivering some of Europe's largest renewable energy infrastructure projects.

You'll have the opportunity to shape flagship utility-scale photovoltaic and battery energy storage projects while working within an international group active across Central and Eastern Europe. Working closely with colleagues across engineering, project management, procurement and construction, you'll gain exposure to the full project lifecycle and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across multiple European markets.

You'll join a collaborative engineering environment where knowledge sharing and technical excellence are part of everyday work. As SUNOTEC continues to expand, you'll have opportunities to broaden your technical responsibilities, contribute to increasingly complex projects and continue developing your expertise within an international organization.

In addition, you'll benefit from:

  • A remuneration package reflecting the scope of the role and your experience;
  • Performance-based annual bonus;
  • Full-time employment contract;
  • Continuous technical training and support for professional certifications;
  • Collaboration with international engineering teams across Europe.
