Every utility-scale renewable energy project begins long before construction starts. Its efficiency, reliability and long-term performance depend on the engineering decisions made at the design stage.
At SUNOTEC, you can shape these decisions while working fully remotely from anywhere in Bulgaria, in a hybrid model or from our Sofia office.
As an international system integrator of large-scale renewable energy infrastructure, we have delivered more than 680 projects, with over 15 GW of installed capacity and 6 GWh of battery energy storage capacity across 24+ countries.
As our Electrical Design team continues to grow, we’re looking for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead technical design activities across utility-scale solar and BESS projects.
Why this role matters:
As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you'll play a key role in developing and reviewing the electrical design of photovoltaic power plants and battery energy storage systems (BESS). Beyond delivering high-quality engineering solutions, you'll help establish technical standards, optimise project designs and provide expert guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers and international stakeholders, your expertise will directly influence the technical quality, efficiency and successful delivery of our projects.
Work from anywhere in Bulgaria:
We believe great engineering is built through collaboration, not location. That's why we give our electrical design engineers the flexibility to choose how they work, while staying connected to international projects and teams.
- Flexible working model – fully remote, hybrid or office-based (Sofia);
- Work closely with engineers and project teams across Europe;
- A culture of trust and accountability - we support flexible work arrangements while expecting ownership, reliability and commitment to team collaboration.
Where you'll make an impact:
- Lead the electrical design of utility-scale photovoltaic power plants, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and related electrical infrastructure;
- Develop and optimize engineering solutions that balance technical performance, project requirements, regulatory compliance and long-term operational reliability;
- Ensure the quality and consistency of project documentation by reviewing and coordinating design work delivered by internal engineering teams and external design partners;
- Support successful project execution by providing technical expertise and author's supervision throughout construction and commissioning;
- Collaborate closely with engineers, project managers and international stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time and to the highest engineering standards;
- Represent the electrical engineering discipline during technical discussions with clients and other project stakeholders, providing expert guidance throughout the design process;
- Contribute to technical proposals, budget estimations and engineering input that supports the development of new renewable energy projects.
What will help you succeed:
- 3+ years of professional experience in the electrical design of utility-scale photovoltaic power plants;
- A university degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline;
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with additional electrical design software will be considered an advantage;
- A solid understanding of engineering standards, regulations and best practices related to renewable energy projects;
- Confidence in reviewing technical documentation and making sound engineering decisions on complex technical challenges;
- The ability to communicate effectively with engineers, project teams, clients and external partners across international projects;
- Professional working proficiency in English. German language skills will be considered an advantage;
- The ability to work independently, take ownership of technical decisions and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Why you'll enjoy working here
At SUNOTEC, you'll work on some of Europe's largest renewable energy projects while collaborating with experienced engineers across multiple countries and technical disciplines.
Because our Electrical Design team supports projects across our international portfolio, you'll be exposed to a wide variety of technical challenges, technologies and engineering standards without relocating or travelling extensively.
As our business continues to grow, you'll have opportunities to take on increasingly complex projects and further expand your technical expertise while maintaining the flexibility of working remotely from anywhere in Bulgaria.
In addition, you'll benefit from:
- A flexible working model based on your preferences and role requirements – fully remote, hybrid or office-based (Sofia);
- A remuneration package reflecting the scope of the role and your experience;
- Additional health insurance including dental care;
- Multisport card;
- 24 days of paid annual leave;
- Modern office facilities whenever you'd like to work from our Sofia office, team events and additional employee benefits.
If you'd like to contribute to projects that shape Europe's energy infrastructure, this might be the right place for you.
Send us your CV in English and become part of a team building large-scale solar, battery storage and grid infrastructure projects across Europe.
Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted. Your documents and personal data will be treated as confidential and will be protected according to Bulgarian Data Protection Legislation and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
