SUNOTEC is an international system integrator of large-scale renewable energy infrastructure, delivering utility-scale solar PV, battery energy storage and related energy projects across Europe and beyond.

With more than 680 projects delivered, over 15 GW of installed renewable energy capacity and 6 GWh of battery energy storage capacity across 24+ countries, SUNOTEC combines engineering expertise, international experience and strong local execution to build the energy infrastructure of the future.

As our UK operations continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to support our projects and operations throughout the United Kingdom.

Why this role matters

At SUNOTEC, protecting people and maintaining high health and safety standards are essential to the successful delivery of our renewable energy projects. As our UK operations expand across utility-scale solar PV, battery energy storage and hybrid renewable energy projects, effective risk management, legal compliance and continuous improvement are increasingly important.

As Health & Safety Manager, you will provide competent health and safety advice, support project mobilisation and delivery, and help ensure that applicable legal requirements, client standards and company procedures are consistently implemented across our UK activities.

Working closely with line management, project teams, contractors and the wider HSE function, you will contribute to strengthening our safety culture, improving operational assurance and ensuring that health and safety requirements are translated into practical measures on site.

Where you'll make an impact:

  • UK legal compliance: Support compliance with applicable UK health and safety legislation, regulatory requirements, approved codes of practice, client standards and contractual obligations.
  • Health and safety advisory: Provide practical, proportionate advice to line management, project teams and site personnel, supporting operational management in fulfilling its health and safety responsibilities.
  • Project mobilisation and planning: Develop and review project-specific HSE plans, construction phase arrangements, emergency plans, mobilisation documentation and other required HSE deliverables in collaboration with project and line management.
  • CDM coordination: Support the implementation of relevant duties and arrangements under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, including coordination, cooperation, competence and effective management of project information and risk controls.
  • Risk management: Coordinate and review risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work, permits, registers and task-specific controls, ensuring documentation is suitable, current and effectively communicated.
  • Incident management: Coordinate the reporting, recording and investigation of incidents, near misses, environmental events and property or equipment damage. Support legally required reporting and communication with management, Legal, clients, insurers and relevant authorities.
  • Audits and inspections: Plan, lead and participate in site inspections, compliance audits and management reviews. Document findings, agree corrective actions and monitor their timely and effective completion.
  • Contractor assurance: Support contractor and supplier pre-qualification, mobilisation, monitoring and performance reviews, including verification of competence, documentation and implementation of agreed safety controls.
  • Training and engagement: Identify training needs and support inductions, toolbox talks, HSE campaigns and workforce consultation, promoting active participation in health and safety matters.
  • Performance reporting: Prepare HSE reports, dashboards, trend analyses, lessons learned and management information, ensuring data accuracy and supporting informed decision-making.
  • Management systems: Support the implementation and continuous improvement of SUNOTEC's integrated management system, including controlled HSE documentation, procedures, templates and records applicable to UK activities.
  • Stakeholder management: Act as a professional HSE contact for clients, external advisers, occupational health providers and other relevant stakeholders, in coordination with UK and Group management.
  • Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities to strengthen safety practices, improve risk controls and standardise HSE processes across projects and operations.

What will help you succeed:

  • A recognised occupational health and safety qualification, such as the NEBOSH Diploma or an equivalent qualification appropriate to the level of the role.
  • Relevant professional membership, with Chartered status or active progress towards it considered an advantage.
  • At least 5 years of relevant HSE experience in construction, renewable energy, infrastructure, utilities, manufacturing or a comparable high-risk environment, including experience in a management or senior advisory role.
  • Strong practical knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and experience applying regulatory requirements in construction and operational environments.
  • Sound understanding of construction risk management, contractor control, lifting operations, plant and vehicle interfaces, temporary works, work at height, electrical safety and emergency arrangements.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating or leading incident investigations, identifying immediate, underlying and systemic causes, and translating findings into practical corrective and preventive actions.
  • Experience supporting HSE management systems, internal audits, controlled documentation and continuous improvement. Familiarity with ISO 45001 is an advantage.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and influence line management, project teams, contractors, clients and workforce representatives.
  • Excellent planning, prioritisation and follow-up skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities and corrective actions through to completion.
  • A proactive, structured and solutions-oriented approach, with a strong commitment to safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly to SUNOTEC project locations throughout the United Kingdom.
