With more than 630 solar power plants and over 10 GWp capacity built, SUNOTEC has made a significant contribution to a sustainable and green energy mix in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. SUNOTEC positions itself as an integrated solution provider, covering all services from geology, procurement, engineering and construction services to operations and maintenance and re-powering of plants with a large focus on BESS.

 

Expanding our SUNOTEC Team in Munich, we are looking for a Senior SCADA Engineer.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Gathers plant monitoring and control requirements, developing system integration plans and equipment specifications;
  • Prepares SCADA system cost estimates;
  • Evaluates technical tenders and supports procurement processes;
  • Leads the design of SCADA, CCTV, and communication systems for solar PV and BESS projects;
  • Uses EPLAN to plan and design electrical and control systems, schematics, wiring diagrams, and SCADA layouts;
  • Ensures SCADA compliance with relevant standards (e.g., IEC 61724);
  • Configures RTUs, sensors, firewalls, routers, switches, modems, and data loggers to support robust network communication;
  • Collaborates with SCADA suppliers and coordinates with field engineers during installation and system testing;
  • Provides technical support during commissioning and operational phases;
  • Produces commissioning reports, operator manuals, as-built documentation, and performance reports;
  • Manages SCADA systems across the full project lifecycle to ensure timely and successful delivery;
  • Support the grid connection team during the tests with DNOs;
  • Analyses root causes of technical problems;
  • Evaluates operational data from initial performance tests and propose system improvements.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent technical training;
  • Several years of experience in automation engineering and solar PV system integration;
  • Strong command of SCADA system architecture and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, IEC 61850, IEC 60870, OPC);
  • Proven hands-on experience with SCADA systems in utility-scale solar PV projects;
  • Skilled in EPLAN (essential), AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office. Familiarity with SCADA platforms and solar monitoring tools;
  • Knowledge of BESS would be an advantage;
  • Strong project management experience from design through commissioning;
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills and ability to resolve complex issues in automation and electrical systems;
  • Fluency in English and German;
  • Willingness to travel up to 15%, including to developing countries and challenging client sites.
